16 years after firing 9,000 employees, NPA receives approval to hire additional personnel
The Federal Government has given the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) permission to start hiring more workers in order to strengthen the capacity of the top maritime body, according to the NPA.
This was said on Monday during the National Executive Council (NEC) Meeting of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) in Festac Town, Lagos, by the managing director of NPA, Mohammed Bello-Koko.
Bello-Koko, who was represented by Mr. Ahmad Umar, General Manager of Human Resources, had reservations about the fact that the NPA presently employs more senior officials than young officers.
He claims that the existing organizational structure of the NPA is an inverted pyramid, with more senior officers filling more positions than the more junior employees.
He promised that the new hiring would put more of an emphasis on bolstering the lower cadre.
Speaking, he added, “The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) is concerned about the decreasing workforce levels; the Managing Director is particularly interested in this matter, and he has received authority to engage more staff than officials.
“Be confident that NPA is addressing the issue. This is to expand the numbers, this is to strengthen your union, and this addresses the majority of the issues you have highlighted here.
