Adeleke suspends the chairman and six members of the Osun Electoral Commission

Only 24 hours after taking office, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke suspended and ordered Mr. Segun Oladitan, the head of the OSIEC (Osun State Independent Electoral Commission), to be suspended immediately.
Mr. Yusuf Oyeniran, Ms. Suibat Adubi, Mr. Yinka Ajiboye, Mrs. Abosede Omibeku, Mr. Dosu Gidigbi, and Mr. Wahab Adewoyin were among the six members the governor also suspended.
The announcement was announced in a statement on Monday by Tesleem Igbalaye, Secretary to the State Government.
This suspension follows a number of petitions filed against the commission’s chairman and members alleging financial irregularities, negligence, tardiness, and abuse of office.
The statement read, “The secretary to the commission shall hold forth in managing the affairs of the commission pending the outcome of investigation into the charges against the suspended chairman and members of the commission.
Another unexpected action by Adeleke was to order the suspension of all appointments made to traditional leaders during the previous Gboyega Oyetola administration.
He claimed that the goal of the bill was to ensure strict adherence to native law, custom, and tradition relating to such chieftaincies, as well as the due process of chieftaincy declarations.
The governor’s six executive orders, which included this one, were released on Monday and made available to the media in a statement from Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed.
Sunday marked four months since Adeleke’s victory in the Osun State governorship election, which he won on July 16.
He defeated incumbent All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Oyetola by running under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
