AFCON2023: Equatorial Guinea draw wasteful Super Eagles draw 1-1

In their opening match of the 2023 African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, the Super Eagles of Nigeria were held to a 1-1 draw by Equatorial Guinea on Sunday.

Iban Salvador’s well-placed strike in the 37th minute gave Equatorial Guinea the lead and left Super Eagles goaltender Stanley Nwabali speechless.

Nigeria responded quickly after the kickoff, as Victor Osimhen headed the team’s equalizing goal just before halftime.

Nigeria missed numerous opportunities to score the game-winning goal. Despite scoring his first goal for the AFCON on his debut, Osimhen lost a significant opportunity in the 75th minute.

Later in the competition, Guinea-Bissau and Ivory Coast will face off against Nigeria in Group A.
