Akeredolu is criticized by Afenifere for his remarks on the power rotation

Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, the governor of Ondo State, has come under fire from the pan-Yoruba sociocultural organization Afenifere for saying that the South, specifically the South-West, must receive the president.

Such a comment, according to Afenifere, was “unlucky and confirmed the lack of statesmanship in our clime, especially faced with the hunger for political power.

“Our concern is that Akeredolu, even as the chairman of the Southern Governors Forum, would not, in deference to that high pedestal, wean himself from petty politics which sacrifices equity needed for national peace and cohesion in preference to crass opportunism,” the group said in a statement released by the secretary general, Chief Sola Ebiseni in Akure.

The group claimed that Akeredolu’s vituperation on that occasion was dreadfully lacking in national reconciliation and statesmanship.

In addition to being extremely callous, Akeredolu’s call for “a southern president,” especially for the South West, was recognized by Afenifere as being intended to embarrass his colleagues outside of the South West.
