Akwa Ibom Assembly passes a N700 billion appropriation bill for 2023

The 2023 Appropriation Bill for the State, which totaled N700 billion, was passed by the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly and signed into law.
The N700 billion is divided into N355.995 billion for capital expenditure and N344.005 billion for ongoing expenses.
The proposed Bill, which represented 0.4% of the initial budget size requested, was put forth in response to the Hon. House Committee on Finance and Appropriations, chaired by Uduak Odudoh.
In accordance with Order 8, Rule 1(3) of the Standing Order of the House, the Appropriations Bill 2023 was deemed to have been read for the first time, according to the report, which recalled that Governor Udom Emmanuel presented his budget address for consideration during the House session on Monday, November 7, 2022.
Members of the Committee of the Whole and Supply unanimously approved the report following a fruitful clause-by-clause discussion, and the Appropriation Bill was subsequently voted into law.
The Executive Governor should be informed of the House’s position for approval, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey, who presided over the plenary, instructed the Clerk of the House, Mrs. Mandu Umoren.
The House also heard a report on the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly’s amendment to its standing rules (Sixth Edition).
Barrister Otobong Bob, the head of the House Committee on Rules, Business, Ethics, and Privileges, presented the findings (Nsit Ubium).
The proposed amendment was focused on the establishment and authority of the House’s committees, opening prayers, members/officers/sitting of the House, the scheduling of public business, and these topics.
