Borno youths take fermented human urine, lizard dung to get high – NDLEA

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) reports that young people in Borno State are substituting fermented human urine, which has been kept for ten days, for hard drugs.

This was disclosed in a statement made in Maiduguri by Iliyasu Mani, the NDLEA’s Commander of Narcotics in Borno State.

Mani stated that the misuse of psychotropic chemicals was widespread among young people, adding that they also ingest strange substances like camel pee, lizard dung, gin-soaked Lipton, and mentholated liquor combined with soft beverages.

In addition, he claims that the young people ingest gutter debris and toilet smells in their pursuit for alcohol.

“Let me state categorically here that these new psychoactive substances that are commonly abused today include Cannabis Sativa, skunk, ice, glue, gutter dirt, toilet fumes, lizard dung, cough syrup with codeine, Tramadol, Rohypnol, and Diazepam,” Mani stated.

“Others include camel urine, mentholated spirit in soft drinks, gin-soaked Lipton’s, 10-day-old human urine, and so forth.”

However, Mani stated that “the issue of substance abuse is even getting challenging, especially with the involvement of young teens in the abuse of new psychoactive substances, especially since the NDLEA Command, under his watch, has fought a hard battle against drug abuse.”

The NDLEA commander continued, “Despite all of this, we shouldn’t give up as the agency has increased its efforts toward prevention approach by establishing a redesigned counseling/rehab center within the grounds of Borno State Command.

Mani noted that in order to better assist everyone, his Command had also set up drop-in centers for drug abuse research at all postsecondary universities.

He claimed that while the Command was in his charge, 863 individuals had been detained and 4.5 tonnes of illegal drugs had been seized.

53 of the people who had been arrested, he said, had been found guilty, and 736 were receiving counseling.
