BVAS Reconfiguration: No Room For Failure, INEC Chairman Tells RECs

The Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) have been tasked with making sure the election goes off without a hitch by INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu.

Yakubu warned that he would hold each REC accountable for any failures that occur in any state when he made this statement during a meeting with RECs yesterday in Abuja. He said he would not accept any justification for failure.

In an interview with LEADERSHIP yesterday in Abuja, Rotimi Oyekanmi, the chief press secretary to the INEC chairman, stated that the meeting with the RECs was primarily held to discuss last-minute preparations for the governorship and state house elections, as well as other supplementary elections scheduled for March 18.

He said that the RECs pledged their readiness and commitment to hold inclusive, credible, free, and fair elections.

Also, he said, “The RECs pledged their commitment and readiness to conduct free, fair, credible, and inclusive elections.”

LEADERSHIP has learned that the purpose of the meeting with the RECs is to discuss how to avoid the technical difficulties that occurred when uploading the results of the February 25 presidential and National Assembly elections to the Results Viewing Portal (IReV)
