Cash crunch: FCT Hospitals adopt alternative payment options for patients

Officials of the Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, are concerned about the difficulties patients have paying for medical care in hospitals.

ordered that all Medical Directors use various Point of Sale, PoS, operators in their various hospitals as a substitute for cash payments for medical services.

In light of the current money constraint throughout the nation, Dr. Abubakar Tafida, Secretary of the FCTA’s Health and Human Services Secretariat, disclosed this information to journalists in Nigeria’s capital city of Abuja.

Dr. Tafida also issued a warning, citing the current state of affairs across the nation as a result of the CBN’s new cashless policy, that the administration would not hesitate to penalize any medical professionals who refused to treat patients and turned them away.

Dr. Tafida said that the situation is not just unique to the FCT but a national challenge that will soon be resolved while assuring people of the FCT that the administration is doing everything necessary to ease their difficulty.

This is happening even as the administration implemented alternative patient payment methods to lessen patients’ struggles while attempting to get hospital-based medical care.
