China to allow German expats to use German COVID-19 vaccines

After the German Chancellor recently stated that German expatriates would use BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine, the Chinese foreign ministry announced that China and Germany had achieved an agreement on giving “German vaccines” to German nationals in China.

Mao Ning, a spokeswoman for the Chinese foreign ministry, told reporters on Friday at a regular news conference that pertinent arrangements will be reviewed and decided by the two sides through diplomatic channels.

During his visit to Beijing on November 4, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced a deal allowing foreigners living in China to use the COVID-19 vaccine produced by German company BioNTech.

The COVID vaccination from BioNTech (22UAy.DE) would be the first non-Chinese coronavirus vaccine to be given in China, however only to German citizens because Beijing had up to this point insisted on giving domestically made vaccines.
