Court finds Doyin Okupe guilty
Doyin Okupe, the Director-General (DG) of the Peter Obi Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), was found guilty of money laundering on Monday by a Federal High Court in Abuja.
According to Newscrescent Okupe was charged on 59 counts by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in 2019 with alleged money laundering and diversion of N702 million.
While Sambo Dasuki was in power, Okupe allegedly got money from the National Security Adviser (NSA) office.
In a ruling, Justice Ojuwku determined that Okupe’s behavior, who is the first defendant in the EFCC’s lawsuit, breached the Money Laundering Act.
Francis Oronsaye, the defendant’s attorney, pleaded with the court to exercise mercy following his conviction, arguing that the defendant was a first-time criminal, a family guy who is also old and dealing with health issues, as well as a first-time offender.
