Court remands alleged killer police officer to Ikoyi Prison

An Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Mr. Drambi Vandi, who shot and killed a pregnant lawyer, Mrs. Omobolanle Raheem, in Lagos on December 25, 2022, has been remanded in the Ikoyi Correctional Center.

Newscrescent gathered that, in anticipation of advice on the case from the Office of the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions, Vandi was remanded until January 30, 2023. (DPP).

In response to an application made and defended by the Lagos State Attorney General, Mr. Moyosore Onigbanjo SAN, Chief Magistrate Miss Adeola Olatunbosun remanded Vandi.

On December 30, 2022, the AG’s office filed a one-count charge against the defendant, ASP Drambi Vandi.

According to a copy of the complaint, “that you ASP Drambi Vandi unlawfully killed one Omobolanle Raheem by shooting the dead in the chest contrary to Section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015 on December 25, 2022, at Ajah Road, along the Lekki Expressway, Lagos.

In accordance with Section 264 of the Lagos, Nigeria, Administration of Criminal Justice Law of 2015, the Attorney General submitted an application for the defendant’s remand along with the charge.

The purpose of the detention, the attorney general explained to the court, is to allow the police to complete their inquiries into the incident.

The magistrate granted the motion for remand and commanded that a duplicate copy of the case file be delivered to Dr. Jide Martins, Director of Public Prosecution, for legal counsel.

After that, she postponed till January 30th, 2023, to await the legal counsel.
