FEATURED: How The Giant of Africa Has Decided to be The Dwarf of Africa
In the quest of my research for knowledge, this writer is of no doubt whatsoever that the depth of misrule in Nigeria has become a source of frustration to many Nigerians. Over the decades, Nigerian leaders have carried on like a gang of bandits without conscience. But all through human history Nigerian leaders are not the worst leaders that have ruled a country. The difference between the masses of other countries and the masses of Nigeria is that they take their fate into their hands, while Nigerians sit at home and ask God to punish their leaders with diseases, tragedies, and deaths. The result is that other countries succeed in creating a change that transforms their countries, while there is no positive change in governance in Nigeria.
South Africans are relatively free today because they stood up, they stood up against a racist government that violated the fundamental human rights of South African indigenous, they stood up to stamp out the menace of injustice and dents in our lives as Africans, and they stood up even in death, they stood up even when great ones like Nelson Mandela was down in prison, men stood up, men fought relentlessly to rescue this great nation, South Africa. Men like Oliver Tambo fought against the Whiteman’s racist ideology which violates the humanity of the Blackman. Today they relatively won.
How come Nigerians who claim to be the giants of Africa have decided to be the dwarfs of Africa? How come in a country so blessed with abundant wealth, and human and natural resources, the citizens suffer from hunger and starvation? How come a country blessed with men and women of substance run away from their own country only to be refugees in other people’s lands when there is no war going on in their land? Bertrand Russell said, “the very best proof that something can be done is that someone else has already done it.” Therefore it becomes a yardstick for the Nigerian masses to measure what other countries have done in resuscitating their country’s(ies) glory. Nigerians can do the same as well.
This Nigeria is for all of us. It must not be destroyed. Because we have nowhere else to go. A foreign land cannot be like home. Let us join hands together and be united in thought. Lift her, let me lift her.
