FG to recruit more women into paramilitary agencies

In order to accommodate more women, the Federal Government has reassessed the recruitment rules for the Immigration, Fire, Civil Defense, and Correctional Services.
Women would now make up 35 percent of those recruited into the services.
Following the Friday meeting of the Board of the Civil Defense, Fire, Correctional, and Immigration Services in Abuja, Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo made this revelation.
Under the leadership of Board Secretary Ja’afaru Ahmed, the minister announced that Federal Character values, gender mainstreaming, and professionalism will be the cornerstones of the Federal Fire’s ongoing recruitment process.
“The federal government has approved the review of the guidelines for recruitment into and promotion in all four Services under the Ministry of Interior through the Board,” stated Tunji-Ojo.
The modernization of the Nigeria Immigration Service’s operations coincides with the development as well. The modernization will include hiring, promoting, training, developing professional skills, increasing capacity, and implementing cutting-edge technology.
Additionally, he revealed that recruitment timelines for all services would be released by the Services in due course.
There have been numerous requests from women to include 35 percent of women in nominations to public sector positions.
