Fraud: After Betta Edu, investigate Interior Minister Tunji-Ojo – NANS tells Tinubu

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has requested that President Bola Tinubu look into the actions of Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo in addition to the suspension of Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Betta Edu.

Tunji-Ojo’s purported participation in an N438.1 million consulting contract with the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation has prompted NANS to recommend that he be looked into.

Pedro Obi, the president of NANS, signed a statement on Tuesday that included this information.

Due to allegations that she transferred N585 million in federal monies into a personal account, Betta was suspended.

Nevertheless, there are claims that New Planet Project Limited, a business allegedly headed by Tunji-Ojo, once paid Edu’s ministry N438.1 million for consulting services.

The minister, who called the news upsetting, went on to say that he has stayed a stakeholder but has not been involved in the day-to-day operations of the company since leaving.

The President of NANS is adamant that an investigation be conducted into Tunji Ojo’s role in the N438.1 million consulting fee.

The NANS president’s statement contained the following passage: “We have been following the revelation coming from the financial misdeeds at the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs with keen interest.” We have to say that we are deeply ashamed that the Ministry would be involved in a scandal of this magnitude.

There are a lot of questions, though, given the recent revelation that has been making the rounds in the media—that a company controlled by the Interior Minister received N438 million from the Humanitarian Ministry while the Minister was suspended.

Furthermore, we demand that the President launch a thorough inquiry into every dollar spent while Minister Betta-Edu was in suspension. Furthermore, the President must see to it that everyone found guilty is brought to justice in line with the legislation of the nation.
