Gov. Sanwo-Olu: I said that Lagos would resemble London someday, and that day has already come

Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor of Lagos State, recalled something he said to a friend who lives in London concerning the future of Lagos State during their conversation years ago.
Speaking at the dedication of the 27-kilometer Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line rail system, which is one of six rail lines and a monorail recommended for the state’s Strategic Transport Master Plan (STMP) to meet Lagosians’ demand for public transportation, Lagos State Governor Sanwo-olu revealed that a number of years ago, while speaking with a London-based friend who usually makes fun of them, by telling him that one dreadful thing happened to them.

“During the time of LAMATA’s inauguration at that time,” he said. On several World Bank study visits, we use LAMATA as an exam board to help us comprehend and appreciate the value of public transit. Because he was from TFL in London at the time, Dr. Mabirola used to refer to us as “Yanga” at that time. I used to tell him, “Don’t worry, Lagos someday will be like this, and Lagos of that day is here, and he is here to witness it as well.
