Illegal migrants behind most crimes in Nigeria – NIS

The majority of criminal activity in Nigeria is carried out by illegal immigrants, according to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).
Aminu Shamsuddin, the Kwara State Comptroller of NIS, told reporters on Tuesday at the 60th anniversary of the Service in Ilorin that Nigeria is surrounded by fragile francophone nations whose citizens would do anything to remain in Nigeria.
He added that NIS must take extra steps to thoroughly check each immigrant at the entry point.
These people believe that Nigeria is a paradise, despite the fact that we are the continent’s mother. They always fight to be a part of us and are willing to spend a significant amount of money to get a Nigerian passport. We meticulously vet each immigrant since they also marry Nigerians in an effort to become citizens.
We can readily tell if someone is Nigerian or not thanks to our training, he claimed.
Shamsuddin asked Nigerians to have patience and understanding, explaining that processes of examination occasionally cause the issuance of international passports to take some time.
Because of the services it provides to the public, he claims that NIS is more in touch with the populace than other paramilitary organizations.
Speaking at the event, Shamsuddin stated that the 36 States of the federation have been instructed to celebrate the diamond jubilee celebration by Caroline Wuraola Adepoju, the acting comptroller general of the NIS.
