Insecurity: Arrest perpetrators, sponsors – South-East Governors tell security agencies

On Thursday, the South-East Governors’ Forum encouraged security organizations to pursue individuals responsible for the area’s unrest.

The accusation was made in a communiqué that was released following their meeting in Enugu.

Hope Uzodinma, the chairman of the Forum and the governor of Imo, as well as the governors of Enugu, Anambra, Abia, Charles Soludo, and Ebonyi states, were all present at the meeting.

They praised the security agencies’ efforts to ensure the restoration of calm in the area and emphasized that normalcy was being gradually restored as a consequence of the security agencies’ cooperation with the governments and residents of the zone.

Uzodinma read the communiqué, which reaffirmed the Forum’s commitment to establishing a common socioeconomic and security cooperation through a summit that will be announced at a later time.

The Forum further stated that the region’s insurgents and their sponsors were simply criminals who should not be treated with respect as legitimate agitators, but rather dealt with in accordance with the law.

According to the communiqué, “The Forum firmly determined to combat insecurity in the region in conjunction with the Federal Government and other Stakeholders, both individually and collectively.

“We thank the security agencies for their up to date cooperation and urge them to continue.

“We want to make it absolutely clear that the people who are causing the insecurity in our region and the people who are funding them are criminals and should not be taken seriously as legitimate agitators. Therefore, they should be treated according to local legislation after being taken into custody.

The security and economic conference will take place on a date that will be revealed soon, the Forum decided.
Responding to questions from reporters, Uzodinma said the governors of the area would keep doing everything in their power to maintain the rising peace and security that the South-East is currently experiencing while separating the unrest in the region from Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, who he claimed had since disowned the enforcers of sit-at-home and perpetrators of other crimes.
