JUST IN: We’re only recirculating N200 Notes” – CBN counters Aisha Buhari Post

The general public has been urged by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, to reject a news statement that claims the bank has been ordered to continue issuing the old N200, N500, and N1000 notes until May 1, 2023.

The CBN released a comment shortly after Nigeria’s First Lady, Aisha Buhari, uploaded the contentious news release on her Instagram page on Tuesday morning.

The supposed CBN statement, which stated in part, “Due to the current and uncomfortable scenario prevailing in Nigeria, In line with Mr. president,” was shared by the first lady.

“The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has been instructed to Exclusively reissue and circulation the old N200, N500, and N1000 banknotes, and this is scheduled to circulate as legal money for 70 days up until May 1, 2023. We had a private meeting with him on February 20, 2023. So, the general population should keep using outdated notes.

“Media professionals are urged to PLEASING share this valuable information with the public,”

But, the CBN quickly responded by refuting the First lady’s screenshot on its official social media account.
