Karim Benzema retires from France national team: I wrote my story and ours is coming to an end

Karim Benzema made his international retirement official by uploading a photo of himself sporting the French jersey to his social media accounts.

The Real Madrid forward is ending an international career that was severely curtailed by his protracted disagreement with Didier Deschamps. He missed the 2022 World Cup due to injury.

Benzema posted on Instagram, “I made the work and the mistakes it needed to reach where I am now and I’m happy of it.

“I wrote my story, and the end of ours is near.”

97 games were played by Benzema for France.

In the immediate aftermath of the World Cup final, in which he had no part due to injury that had kept him out of the entire competition, Benzema made the following comment.

Benzema’s time with Les Bleus came to an end after 97 games, despite suspicions that he might have been well enough to be selected on Sunday.

He had 37 goals in those games and earned a title for France in the 2021 Nations League.

While still playing for Lyon, he made his debut back in March 2007 and scored against Austria.

He only competed in one World Cup, however he participated in three European Championships.

The subject of Benzema’s French exile had grown to be highly contentious, especially among the nation’s most influential political figures.

Ultimately, Deschamps selected him for Euro 2020, and he continued to play regularly for the international team up to his Monday retirement announcement.
