Kwara State Ministry of Environment urges the residents on flood prevention

Newscrescent

Kwara State Ministry of Environment once again appeals to members of the public to join government’s efforts to prevent flooding and loss of lives and properties.

In this regard, the Ministry calls on the citizens to avoid illegal and indiscriminate refuse dump and blockage of water ways/right of way in any part of the state.

The Ministry is elated to note that the longstanding perennial flooding within the Unity Obbo Road axis of
Ilorin metropolis has stopped. This is due to the untiring efforts of the Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq administration, which finally led to the ongoing dredging/ channelisation of the Asa River after many years of palliatives.

Notwithstanding, these great efforts can be better complemented when citizens avoid arbitrary dump of refuse on water ways and road median. That way, we can together make perennial flooding a thing of the past in our state, including in the capital city Ilorin.

Similarly, the Ministry of Environment appeals to people residing around water banks or flood plains to kindly vacate such dangerous areas for safety reasons. This is especially necessary in view of the recent warnings of impending flooding by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency.

Signed:

Mrs Remilekun Banigbe
Honourable Commissioner for Environment, Kwara State.
