REPORT: A religious sect SHI’A at Idiape Quarter Locked up Magaji Are wards Development Association’s(MAWDA) Secretariat

A religious sect SHI’A at Idiape quarters headed by Alh. Abdullahi Berende drove out members of the Magaji Are Wards Development Association and locked up the Secretariat on 2/6/2024.


Our correspondence reached out to eye witnesses, who confirmed the story to be authentic.

He further said the incident occurred following the refusal of the sect’s request by the development Association, to use our secretariat for their weekly programs. However, before that Sunday, the matter was reported to Magaji Are and other traditional rulers within Idiape quarters and nothing was done.

The Magaji Are wards Development association MAWDA now sent a letter of disapproval to Madinat UL’ ILM, Barende Center, an Islamic Shi’a association, the letter was issued by association President, Alhaji Ade-Yusuf Taiwo Agbarere, for using the secretariat head office mentioned above for a joint religious conference.

Mallam Sheu Alabere, the association secretary, and President Alhaji Ade Yusuf Taiwo Agbarere issued a joint signed letter stating the rejection of the association.

The association regrets to notify you that your request is not able to be fulfilled after careful consideration. Additionally, the association is advised to find a different location for its programs and activities.

It should be noted that the aforementioned association harassed and locked the Magaji Are Ward Development Association secretariat door, which caused the group’s leadership to take more action against them.

It is stated that the Chieftain and the elders of the community have been duly informed by the Magaji Are executives of their unhappiness, and that the IEDPU National (Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union) is likewise aware of the circumstances surrounding the two associations.

The public is being urged by the Magaji Area Wards to heed their request that they not be allowed to operate in our community and that additional action may be necessary if this happens once again.
