Meet The Three Women That Will Serve As Referees In 2022 World Cup

The 2022 World Cup will begin in.a couple of days. According the Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA), 36 referees will officiate in the tournament. For the first time in the history of the tournament, female referees will be engaged. Who are these history-making women?

The oldest among the trio Stéphanie Frappart. This French referee is currently 38 years old. The woman has got about ten years experience in refereeing with many of her engagements involving male matches. Stephanie has high level experience in refereeing having handled high profile games. She was the one at the centre when Liverpool and Chelsea clashed in the 2019 edition. of UEFA Super Cup. The female official awarded three bookings in the game. She was also the referee that managed the final of Coupe de France on May 7, 2022. Five yellow cards were issued in the match. She was in charge of two World Cup qualifying games leading to Qatar 2022. Altogether, Frappart has awarded 67 penalties in 235 men matches across all competition. 

The second oldest female referee going into the quadrennial competition is Yoshimi Yamashita. This Japanese match official has overseen at least three continental engagements. These include AFC Champions League, AFC Cup as well as AFC U23 Asian Cup Qualification. She also has couple of international friendlies under her care within her period in the trade. It is worthy of note that the 36-years old referee awarded two penalties in the only AFC Cup that she officiated. She has 39 games under her belt but only one player has been sent off under her officiating

The next female referee that will officiate in Qatar 2022 is Salima Mukansanga. T Rwandan woman is presently thirty four years old. She has three appearances at the continental (Africa Cup of Nations. AFCON) level: once as a centre referee and twice as a fourth official. The only AFCON game officiated by the 36-year-old official is the Group B tie between Zimbabwe and Guinea on January 18, 2022. She awarded three yellow cards in the game.
