Nigerian Army Breaks Silence About Its Alleged Invasion Of Amangu Community In Abia State

Recently, there was a report alleging that the Nigerian Army invaded a community in Abia State. The report also alleged that some people were killed during the invasion.

In respect to the report, the Nigerian Army recently issued a statement to clear the air about the incident.

According to the statement issued by the Armed Force on its official social media page, it said that the troops of the Nigerian Army were only conducting search and rescue operations in the region to rescue one of its men who was recently kidnapped by unknown Gunmen in the state.

The Armed Force revealed that one of its soldiers whose name is given as Bassey Ikunugwan as kidnapped along Road Okwu-Ebem Ohafia in Abia State on the 2nd of November 2022.

The Nigerian Army revealed that after it had received credible intelligence on the incident, troops were sent out on a search and rescue mission on Thursday, 3rd of November 2022 at Amangu Community forest where it was confirmed that some terrorists were camping and reportedly holding the soldier hostage.

The troops were said to have come in contact with the terrorists in the forest and there was an exchange of fire.

The Armed Force further added that the troops continued the search and rescue mission on the 4th of November 2022, at Okon Aku in Abia State.

Troops were also said to have come in contact with another set of terrorists and during the gunbattle, one of the criminals was killed and one AK 47 rifle with a magazine loaded with 7 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) and one mobile phone were recovered.

The Army said that a follow up operation was carried out on the 5th of November 2022, in Amangu Village forest where the troops raided another enclave of the terrorists. The soldiers were said to have killed two of the criminals, while some fled with gunshot wounds. The Army said that it lost a soldier during the operations.

The Nigerian Army revealed that it recovered two locally fabricated AK 47 rifles, four Pump Action guns, one locally made Pistol, one Sniper rifle, six magazines, 13 rounds of 7.62mm (NATO) and one Motorcycle, 2 CCTV cameras, one solar panel, flags, one walkie-talkie, 2 mobile phones, two pamphlets of Biafran anthem, one INEC box, 12 face caps, machetes, pairs of combat boots, pairs of rain boot, camouflage uniforms, one transistor radio, two jungle hats, two knee guards, one power bank, one INEC image capturing machine and a PVC.
