Nigerian mobile subscribers reached 210 million in August – NCC
According to the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), as of August, there were 210 million active mobile customers in Nigeria, with a teledensity of 109.99 percent.
This was said on Monday at the NCC Day at the 43rd Kano International Trade Fair by Prof. Umar Dambatta, the Executive Chairman of the NCC.
According to Mr. Dambatta, who was represented by the commission’s Deputy Director for Consumer Affairs, Banji Ojo, the number of Internet customers in the nation has surpassed 152.2 million, with a broadband penetration rate of 44.56 per cent.
He claims that information and communication technology (ICT) is not just the sector with the quickest rate of growth, but it is also a key catalyst for innovation and growth.
The digital economy is strategically fueled by the telecommunications industry, particularly in the operations of small and medium-sized businesses in Nigeria and elsewhere.
He said that the commission has started training entrepreneurs in the six geographical zones of the nation in digital literacy.
According to him, the objective was to give small business owners the necessary skills and spark ideas for the creation of goods and services that might be exported.
In a separate statement, Ahmed Aminu, the interim chairman of the Kano Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (KACCIMA), praised the NCC for advancing the telecommunications sector.
The 43rd Kano Trade Fair, according to Mr. Aminu, was planned to advance business and industry as well as to highlight the abilities and goods of SMEs in an effort to strengthen the economy.
During a raffle draw that was held during the occasion and was organized by the commission, ten participants each won brand-new Android smartphones.
