OAU reduces tuition fees, to be paid in two instalments
While announcing that the University site had been made available to students for payment, Olarewaju also stated that the University administration had consented for the payment to be made in two equal installments.
The tuition prices that students at Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife, Osun State, must pay have been revised by the university’s administration.
Abiodun Olarewaju, the university’s public relations officer, announced this in a statement on Monday.
The institution’s management had announced an increase in tuition costs for all faculties at the beginning of September.
The decision, according to Olarewaju, was made when the university administration met with the Students’ Union leadership on Monday, September 25, 2023.
The meeting, which lasted for several hours, was convened by the university management, according to the statement, “after several agitations by the students’ union for a reduction of the initial charges approved by the university.”
The University management made it plain that the increased costs were the very minimum the University needed to operate effectively, notwithstanding the Students’ Union leaders’ insistence that they be slashed by 50%.
As a result, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Adebayo Simeon BAMIRE, graciously declared that the initial costs had been lowered as follows:
“For students in the Humanities, the initial sundry charges of N89,200 for returning students have been reduced to N76,000, while the initial fees of N151,200 have been reduced to N131,000 for new students in the Humanities.”
The beginning fees of N101,200 for returning students in the sciences and technology are now N86,000, while the first fees for new students in the same faculties are now N141,000 rather than N163,200.
In a similar vein, the Pharmacy and College of Health Sciences returning students will now pay N109,000 instead of N128,200. The initial fees of N190,000 have been reduced to N164,000 for new students in the same faculties.
While announcing that the University site had been made available to students for payment, Olarewaju also stated that the University administration had consented for the payment to be made in two equal installments.
