Plateau State Workers Set To Begin Strike Over Unpaid Salaries, Fee

Workers in the Plateau state have announced a five-day warning strike because, among other things, their salaries are not being paid by the state government.

According to a letter from the Plateau Council of the Nigerian Labour Congress, the strike would start at midnight on December 12. (NLC).

Eugene Manji, the chairman of the Plateau NLC, and Dalyop Badung, the acting secretary, both signed the letter.

All Plateau employees, including those affiliated with the Trade Union Congress (TUC), have been enlisted to completely support the strike.

According to Titus Malau, chairman of the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council (JNPSNC), Plateau chapter, the government’s refusal to meet workers’ demands made the warning strike necessary.

According to Mr. Malau, the JNPSNC was especially alarmed by the government’s failure to uphold the agreement struck on November 11 with the Secretary to the Government of the State’s involvement.

The inconsistencies in the calculation of salaries and their payment to workers were among the problems the chairman mentioned as justification for the strike action.

In order to guide salary computation, JNPSNC demands that the salary structure be released right away and given immediate approval.

“It also wants the prompt payment of all past-due salaries.

It also expressed displeasure over the government’s alleged inability to fully disburse arrears on annual raises and promotions for employees.

It demanded prompt release and the implementation of worker promotions with full back pay, and it strongly denounced the payment of only three months’ worth of arrears for late promotions.

He claimed that the non-release of third-party deductions including union dues, cooperative deductions, and Federal Mortgage Bank deductions, among others, was something that the Congress had bitterly noted.
