Police in Ogun detain a woman suspected of kidnapping a 13-year-old girl
On Tuesday, December 20, the Ogun State Police detained a 27-year-old lady named Mariam Ayila for allegedly kidnapping Sofiat Yusau, a 13-year-old child.
Newscrescent gathered that, the suspect was apprehended as a result of a report made by one Ismail Yusau to the Agbara divisional headquarters. Yusau claimed that he had sent his daughter on an errand to the Agbara market at around 11 am of the day, only to receive a strange call from an unknown person a few hours later informing him that his daughter had been kidnapped and that if he didn’t send the sum of N250,000 as ransom.
Following the report, CSP Abiodun Salau of the DPO Agbara division assembled his Crack Detectives and sent them on a technical and intelligence-based inquiry. Their efforts paid off when the culprit was located at her hiding place in the Atan ota neighborhood, where she was swiftly apprehended and the young girl was saved unharmed.
According to SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the state police command’s spokesperson, who confirmed the event, preliminary inquiry revealed that the suspect had earlier abducted a little girl in the Itele Ota region on December 19, 2022, and demanded money before releasing her victim.
CP Lanre Bankole, the commissioner of police, has ordered that the suspect be given to the state’s criminal investigation departments’ anti-kidnapping team for further investigation.
