President Tinubu declares April 7 as National Police Day

April 7th has been designated as National Police Day by President Bola Tinubu.

During the inaugural Nigeria Police Awards and Commendations ceremony on Monday night at the Transcorp Hilton in Abuja, Tinubu made this known in the person of Vice President Kashim Shettima.

The president stated that a thorough reform of the institutional mindset and officers’ memory is essential to his administration’s continuous efforts to make the police force a contemporary, responsible, and professional organization.

Since taking power in 2023, Tinubu claimed that his administration had implemented extensive reforms to resurrect the country’s police force.

In order to give both men and women of the force the knowledge and skills necessary to handle the challenging work of modern policing, he emphasized the importance of training and capacity-building.

Additionally, he revealed that the first week of April had been approved by the federal government to be designated as police week, and the last day of the week as National Police Day.

Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, we have approved the first week of April to be designated as Police Week in keeping with our history of honoring the Police Force in the life of our wonderful nation.

Additionally, April 7th, the concluding day of the week, is officially designated as National Police Day in Nigeria.

“I have to remind you tonight that you are more than just the shields of the nation, we don’t see you as robots.

Our purpose for being here is to make you feel like a human being.

Nigerians have been able to withstand attacks on their lives and livelihoods as well as security threats at a period in the country’s history when the nation’s security architecture is being stretched beyond elastic limits because of the dedication of the police.

“Your outstanding bravery not only epitomizes the unity of patriotism that unites us, but it also inspires hope that better times are ahead,” he remarked.

The president enumerated investments in training and capacity-building as part of the extensive changes carried out by his government to revitalize the police force.
