Prize money: FIFA will still pay Falcons through NFF — Aisha Falode

Aisha Falode, the chairwoman of the Nigerian Women’s Football League, has made it clear that FIFA will continue to distribute the prize money for the 2023 Women’s World Cup through the nation’s organization.

After the Super Falcons advanced to the second round of the World Cup, FIFA Secretary-General Fatma Samoura allegedly said that the women’s football team would get any unpaid allowances straight from the players.

Every player competing in the World Cup group stage will receive $30,000, according to FIFA.

In the competition’s second round, the match bonuses rise to $60,000.

By virtue of reaching the round of 16 in Australia and New Zealand, each member of the Nigerian team is predicted to earn at least $60,000.

Falode clarified that the World Cup prize money will be “ring-fenced” to guarantee that it reaches the players without influence from a third party during a conversation with Lagos Talks FM on Wednesday.

She mentioned that the NFF would continue to handle the Falcons’ prize money from the current World Cup.

“FIFA did not say it would pay the players directly,” she argued. It states that we would give you this money through the federations, working through your member associations, the NWFL chair added.

FIFA will pay the federations, and the federation will direct how to pay the players. Everyone is aware that it is presented in black and white.

On Monday, Nigeria will compete against England in the second round.
