Protest: Your palliative measures deceptive – Kano NLC blasts Tinubu

The Federal Government’s palliative effort to mitigate the impact of eliminating the fuel subsidy, according to the Kano State Chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, is misleading.

The chapter noted that just two months into President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government, he had launched war on the people with his unpopular policies. The chapter joined the national body’s nationwide protest.

The union, according to Kabiru Inuwa, the NLC’s chairman in Kano, is not a political party and will never play politics with Nigerians’ lives. He expressed dismay that the government intended to put a court injunction in place to put a halt to the demonstration, claiming that this was unfriendly to Nigerians.

He bemoaned Tinubu’s national address after they threatened to strike, saying that the committees formed by the government to address concerns with the elimination of fuel subsidies, pay, and other matters never met.

Tinubu ought to allow the populace to breathe. The palliative he promised should be immediately distributed, and he should also start putting his desired policies and initiatives into effect, he said.

In response, the demonstrators chanted that they preferred the fuel subsidy system to be reinstated and that they did not want the palliative.

Dr. Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, the State Secretary to the Government, previously caused a commotion by obstructing the protesting NLC members halfway to Government House, but the demonstrators yelled at him and rejected his attempts to address them there.

Speaking at the Government House roundabout, Bichi promised to submit the request of the NLC to the State Governor for onward transmission to the Federal Government.
