Raheem Sterling missed England’s World Cup victory over Senegal after robbers break into family home

Raheem Sterling missed England’s World Cup victory over Senegal after his family home has been targeted by armed robbers.

Before the match, which England won 3-0 to secure a spot in the quarterfinals, the 27-year-old made plans to return to the UK to be with his family, according to Three Lions manager Gareth Southgate.

The Surrey property was reportedly targeted on Saturday night, and the Chelsea winger was informed of the incident in the wee hours of Sunday morning. The Telegraph claims that Sterling’s spouse and young child were present during the raid.

Although the England manager is unsure whether the winger will be back in Qatar in time for the quarterfinal match against France on Saturday, Southgate is hoping former City player Sterling will be available.

After England’s victory over Senegal, Southgate stated of Sterling, “The priority for him is to be with his family.

“We’ll support that and give him as much time as he requires. He is returning home. I don’t want to exert pressure on him. Family should always come first, sometimes football isn’t the most important thing.

England advanced to the next round thanks to goals from Bukayo Saka, Harry Kane, and Jordan Henderson.
