“Discomfort is one thing we shy away from. We do not want to leave the cocoon we have built around ourselves. We sometimes forget that great things are built outside of the nests we are comfortable in.
“Discomfort stokes a fire, a passion which drives us to achieve what we want to achieve. I was uncomfortable with where l was in my academic life. You know, when you get second a chance, there is a profound realisation that you have to rethink your steps and processes. I realised that I needed to do more.”
Rahmat, the daughter of Fatiu Arogundade, a Professor of Medicine and a Consultant Nephrologist, said she gained admission into the university with self-esteem, saying her discomfort propelled her to be a better student.
“There was a resolve to not play small, a reason to be a better version of me every time I competed with my old self. I started to rate my performances with the number of 70s, 80s and 90s. Each time, resolving to up the 90s and reduce the 70s. The goal was to deeply understand what I was learning so much that it became effortless for me.
