Ramadan: Gov Buni pardons 33 inmates in Yobe

Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has pardoned 33 prisoners from the state’s various correctional facilities as part of celebrations honoring this year’s Ramadan fasting month.

In a statement provided to newsmen in Damaturu on Wednesday, Yobe State Ministry of Justice Information Officer Alhassan Sule Mamudo disclosed this.

The governor pardoned the prisoners, according to the announcement, on the recommendation of the Yobe State Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy, which was chaired by Barrister Saleh Samanja, the state attorney general and commissioner for justice.

“The Advisory Council visited Potiskum, Nguru, and Gashu’a Correctional Services for the pardoning before the offenders were released. According to the Attorney General, they went to every prison in the state to find out who deserves to enjoy the executive pardon.

Following lengthy consideration, the advisory council produced a list of 33 prisoners for His Excellency Hon. Mai Mala Buni, the Yobe State executive governor, to review. His Excellency graciously accepted the list of prisoners and approved their release, allowing them to enjoy freedom under the executive order vested in him, according to Samanja.

The statement also stated that Governor Mai Mala Buni authorized the distribution of food palliatives to all of the state’s correctional facilities on the eve of Ramadan, allowing the prisoners to partake in the abundance of the holy month.
