Real Madrid striker kylian Mbappe suffers thigh injury ahead of Atletico derby

Prior to this weekend’s La Liga rivalry between Real Madrid and Atletico, Kylian Mbappe, the striker for Real Madrid, suffered a thigh injury, his club announced on Wednesday.

The French sensation looked uncomfortable when he was substituted during Tuesday’s 3-2 victory over Alaves.

Mbappe is expected to miss about three weeks due to injury, according to Spanish media.

The Spanish champions released a statement saying, “After tests conducted today by Real Madrid’s medical services, our player Kylian Mbappe has been diagnosed with an injury to the biceps femoris in his left leg.”

Mbappe has five goals this season in seven league games, including a fantastic goal in the thrilling match at the Santiago Bernabeu with Alaves.

After the match, Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti responded to a question concerning Mbappe’s health by saying, “He’s fine, he’s fine, a little overloaded, he asked me for the change to avoid problems.”

A point behind leaders Barcelona heading into Wednesday’s Catalans match against Getafe, Madrid will take on rivals Atletico at the Metropolitano stadium on Sunday.

Los Blancos have not been beaten in La Liga for 39 games, since a defeat at Atletico a year ago.

The striker is also set to miss the visit to Lille in the Champions League next week and potentially October’s Nations League matches against Israel and Belgium with France.

Kylian Mbappé is expected to miss: • Atleti (A)• Lille (A)• Villarreal (H)• International Break

Mbappe joined Real Madrid this summer at the end of his Paris Saint-Germain contract, fulfilling a long-held dream.

The 25-year-old hit his stride in recent matches after taking a few games to find his footing in the Spanish capital.

Mbappe has seven goals in nine appearances for Real Madrid across all competitions, scoring in the UEFA Super Cup victory over Atalanta in August and on his Champions League debut.
