Ronaldo could return to Man Utd under Amorim, says Sheringham
Cristiano Ronaldo, who left Manchester United amid controversy, may still find the door open for a return to Old Trafford, according to former United striker Teddy Sheringham.
According to a report by Mirror UK, Sheringham believes Ronaldo would be warmly received if he ever wanted to come back, particularly with fellow Portuguese Ruben Amorim set to take over as manager.
Ronaldo’s celebrated return to United in 2021 was initially seen as a dream comeback. However, his time quickly soured, ending after a highly publicised interview with Piers Morgan that led to his departure for Al Nassr in the Saudi Pro League.
Now a major star in Saudi Arabia and the league’s leading scorer, Ronaldo has embraced a new chapter in his career.
Despite the past tensions, Sheringham thinks the arrival of Amorim, who once played alongside Ronaldo for Portugal, could make a return more feasible.
“Cristiano Ronaldo would be very welcome back at Manchester United under Ruben Amorim. But he is onto bigger and better things. I think Ronaldo will follow in the path of David Beckham, doing higher-profile things worldwide rather than coaching,” Sheringham told FlashScore.
While Sheringham sees a potential return as a possibility, he also acknowledges that Ronaldo, at 39, may choose to finish his career elsewhere.
