Russia’s Wagner mercenaries target in hotel attack, governor says
According to Ukrainian Governor Serhiy Haidai, a “large number” of people perished during an attack on a hotel where Russian mercenaries were stationed.
Ukrainian governor of the region say, the Wagner Group’s mercenaries were slain when the Ukrainian military attacked a hotel where many of them were based in a town in the Russian-occupied Luhansk province.
Serhiy Haidai, the exiled governor of Luhansk, claimed that Ukraine had attacked a hotel in Kadiivka, a city west of Luhansk, in an interview with Ukrainian television on Sunday. Images shared on Telegram channels revealed a building that was mostly reduced to ruins.
Just outside of the Wagner headquarters, they heard a small pop, according to Haidai.
He claimed that “a big number of those who were there died.”
The report could not be independently verified, and the Russian defense ministry was not immediately available for comment.
Local officials were cited in some Ukrainian media as saying the hotel had been closed for a while, while the Russian state news agency TASS reported on its Telegram channel that a hotel in Stakhanov, which is another name for Kadiivka in Russian, had been destroyed by a Ukrainian HIMARS missile attack and that rescue workers were removing the wreckage.
