Sack non-performing ministers – Speaker Abbas to Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has received pressure from Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas to fire underperforming cabinet members.

Speaking during the Tuesday plenary session’s restart, Abbas also supported the creation of fresh approaches to deal with the pervasive insecurity plaguing the nation.

He warned that the security situation could worsen and endanger national stability if it is not sufficiently addressed.

The Speaker stated that despite the implementation of various measures to address it, the security situation in the nation has not abated.

He claimed that because of this, it is now necessary to take fresh tacks in dealing with the issue because the long-standing conventional methods are no longer working.

The country’s peace and stability are being put to the ultimate test by insurgency threats, the rise in kidnappings for ransom, and the unnerving turmoil and crises that are occurring in each of the six geopolitical zones. Our sympathies are with everyone impacted by these turbulent events, as families and communities have faced tremendous hardships,” he said.

Speaking yet further, Abbas lamented the horrific deaths of Nabeeha Al-Kadriyar and Folorunsho Ariyo at the hands of kidnappers, the over 100 persons killed in the Plateau slaughter, and the victims of the most recent explosion in Ibadan, Oyo State.

President Tinubu was also given a responsibility by the Speaker to demand “More performance and accountability from our service chiefs and all security and enforcement agencies.” I beg the President to not be afraid to take the difficult choices. We must not be reluctant to make adjustments to our security system if needed because the price of delay is simply too high to pay.
