FIFA U-17 World Cup to become annual event
FIFA, the global governing body of football, said on Thursday that additional teams will participate in the Under-17 World Cup every year.
The competition aims to promote football growth worldwide.
Five times, Nigeria has won the male Under-17 World Cup.
The next Under-17 female championship will take place in Morocco, while the Under-17 male competition will take place in Qatar.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino said that the competition’s return to Africa in 2025 would inspire “so many more girls – and boys – to take up football in the country, and as it is the first time the tournament comes to Africa, that inspiration will spread right across the continent.” This presents an opportunity for the competition to influence upcoming female football players.
