Tinubu not architect of Nigeria’s economic problems- Gov Oyebanji

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has weighed in on the ongoing economic struggles in Nigeria, offering both defense of President Bola Tinubu and a call for collective action. While acknowledging the difficulties faced by Nigerians, he emphasizes that these issues predate the current administration and require patience and collaborative efforts for resolution.
Speaking at a religious gathering, Governor Oyebanji emphasized, “The President is not the cause of these crises, but God has prepared him for a time like this.” He urges Nigerians to “amplify our prayers” and offer support to the government, believing that Tinubu possesses the capacity to address the challenges “if given ample time and the necessary support.”
Recognizing the limitations of temporary solutions, Governor Oyebanji discourages dependence on handouts. He argues, “palliatives will not solve these problems…it can only be a temporary measure.” Instead, he advocates for long-term solutions through individual and collective efforts, stating, “We must be able to grow ourselves out of hunger.”
The Governor outlines his vision for Ekiti, aiming to achieve “food sufficiency” through various programs and encouraging citizens to embrace agriculture. He believes that by becoming “productive in their own little way,” Nigerians can contribute to national progress.
Governor Oyebanji’s stance sparks mixed reactions. Some commend his call for unity and self-reliance, while others express skepticism about the effectiveness of proposed solutions and the extent of the President’s responsibility.
This statement highlights the complex and multifaceted nature of Nigeria’s economic challenges. While assigning blame may be tempting, Governor Oyebanji’s message underscores the need for a nuanced understanding of the situation and a collaborative approach towards finding sustainable solutions. His emphasis on individual responsibility and long-term strategies, coupled with support for the government’s efforts, could pave the way for a more resilient and prosperous future for Nigeria.
