UCL: Why Haaland had poor game against Real Madrid – Guardiola
Erling Haaland’s terrible performance against Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League semifinal matchup on Tuesday night has been justified by Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola.
Haaland had the fewest touches on the field with only 21 throughout the game.
Even more passes were made by City goalkeeper Ederson (19) than by Haaland (13).
Before Kevin De Bruyne scored the equalizer in the second half to keep the score at 1-1 going into the return leg in Manchester, Vinicius Jr. had given Madrid the lead.
The gaps and spaces between the central defense and the full-backs were filled, according to Guardiola, who was commenting on Haaland’s play.
Erling found it to be challenging. He was agile and had opportunities.
