With flaws, a late submission, the Senate is unable to pass the 2023 budget

Yesterday, the Senate disappointed those who thought it would approve the 2023 Appropriations Bill into law. The Executive Arm of government was held responsible for not only delivering the budget proposal extremely late but also for presenting a bill full of mistakes, according to the Senate, which failed to adopt the 2023 Appropriations bill as originally planned.

When the budget report was not included on the Order Paper for yesterday’s legislative activity, it was clear that the senators would not approve the 2023 Budget.

The Senate went into an executive session shortly after the daily plenary commenced, and the closed session continued for 15 minutes until the President of the Senate, Senator Ahmad Lawan, made his disclosure. Submitted by President Muhammadu Buhari the N20.51 trillion proposed budget for 2023 to the National Assembly during a joint session on October 7, 2022.
