World Cup: Final Results, Match Reviews, And Group Standings After Yesterday’s Games
Cameroon 3-3 Serbia
Monday’s exciting match in Group G saw Cameroon come back from a 3-1 deficit to tie Serbia 3-3.
Les Lions Indomptables’ Jean-Charles Castelletto gave his team the lead in the 29th minute, but Serbia swiftly took over by scoring three straight goals through Strahinja Pavlovic, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, and Aleksandar Mitrovic to take control of the match.
Cameroon did not, however, stop there. To equalize the score at 3-3, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Vincent Aboubakar each scored twice in a three-minute stretch.
South Korea 2-3 Ghana
Ghana won 3-2 in a thrilling five-goal thriller in World Cup 2022 Group H at the Education City Stadium, despite a brave comeback attempt from South Korea. The Black Stars scored two goals before halftime through Mohammed Salisu and Mohammed Kudus, despite being under pressure the entire first half.
South Korea head coach Paulo Bento was fired at the final whistle for criticizing referee Anthony Taylor over a corner that they didn’t have time to take after Kudus’ second goal of the game ended a nail-biting match. However, Cho Gue-two Sung’s headers helped South Korea make a strong comeback.
Brazil 1-0 Switzerland
At Stadium 974 on Monday, Brazil defeated Switzerland 1-0 to advance to the round of 16 of the 2022 World Cup.
The five-time world champions were frustrated by the Swiss team’s strong defensive play, but they ultimately broke through when Casemiro scored the game-winning goal from inside the box in the 83rd minute.
Brazil is the second nation to make it to the knockout rounds after World Cup hosts France, who did so after defeating Denmark on Saturday. Tite’s team is still in first place in Group G.
Portugal 2-0 Uruguay
Portugal advanced to the round of 16 of the 2022 World Cup with a 2-0 victory over Uruguay at the Lusail Iconic Stadium.
After escaping Portugal’s defense, Uruguay had their one significant chance, but Rodrigo Bentancur was denied by Diogo Costa’s quick reflexes after a cagey first half yielded few chances.
In spite of Cristiano Ronaldo’s assertion that he had a tiny touch on the dangerous Fernandes cross, it found its way into the far corner of the net in minute 54. In the second half, Portugal was able to step it up, and their dominance of the ball resulted in a goal.
