Bandits kill 7 NSCDC officers at mining site in Kaduna

Seven members of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) were attacked and killed at the Kuriga mining site in Kaduna State’s Birnin Gwari Local Government Area.
Bandits killed security personnel in Birnin Gwari, including members of the NSCDC, police, army, and vigilante groups, according to a previous LIB report.
In a statement released on Tuesday, January 10 in Abuja, the director of public relations for the NSCDC, Mr. Olusola Odumosu, acknowledged the event and added that five other security personnel from a sister agency and a local watchdog group were also slain.
The statement added, “While on official duty at a mining site in Birnin Gwari LGA of Kaduna State, the staff who were affiliated to the Kaduna State Ministry of Mines were attacked and slain by bandits.”
“The tragic incident happened on January 9, 2023, at or around 10:00 a.m. at the Kuriga mining site in Kaduna State’s Birnin Gwari LGA.
“The murdered agents’ rifles were taken by the attackers after the attack, but the bodies of the officers and soldiers who died have since been found and placed at the Barau Diko Hospital in Kaduna.
“The regrettable tragedy resulted in a significant loss for the Corps, the families of the killed people, and the country, according to Commandant General Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, OFR.
“He expresses sympathy to the bereaved families and friends and prays that God may give them the strength to endure the irreplaceable loss.
The Corps’ flag should be flown at half-mast in memory of the deceased personnel, and Christians and Muslims should gather for a national prayer at the Corps’ national headquarters in Abuja to ask for God’s protection over all of the corps’ officers and members in the coming year and to prevent another incident like this one.
