100 Days Of Glistening Touch In Ifelodun Local Government By Abdulquadri Jimba
As we mark 100 days since Hadji Abdulrasheed Femi Yusuf assumed office as the Executive Chairman of Ifelodun Local Government, it is worth acknowledging the progress made across various sectors under his leadership.
Barely a week after his inauguration, the Igbaja community faced a tragic incident with the assassination of Chief Ibrahim Jagun, the Jagun of Igbaja land. This unfortunate event expressed the urgent need to strengthen security within the local government.
The Nigeria Police launched an investigation that will bring the culprits to justice. However, the Chairman recognized the importance of long-term measures to address insecurity. He promptly convened a security meeting involving traditional rulers and Fulani associations, resulting in proactive strategies.
To bolster local security, the Chairman recruited an additional 33 vigilantes, enrolled them in the Kwara State Health Insurance Scheme, and approved a 50% increase in their monthly allowances.
Furthermore, a registration process for non-indigenes is underway to enhance safety and prevent criminal activities.
In collaboration with community stakeholders, the Chairman advised all nine districts to mobilize local hunters to patrol at night, complementing the existing security structure. This initiative is already yielding promising results.
In the agricultural sector, the Chairman has established partnerships with the National Centre for Agricultural Mechanization (NCAM), the National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA), and the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN). These efforts aim to position Ifelodun as a food basket and revenue-generating hub. NALDA has commenced the clearing of 125 hectares of farmland in Ora for agricultural activities, while AFAN’s proposed dry-season farming is set to begin with financial support from the local government.
Infrastructure development has also received giant attention. The re-opening and grading of the 12.5-kilometer Idofian to Igbaja road is ongoing, enhancing transportation, security, and internal connectivity within the local government.
The Legislative House of Ifelodun Local Government is undergoing partial renovations approved by the Chairman, ensuring smooth commencement of legislative duties.
Meanwhile, the Administration of Hadji Femi Yusuf has commenced the construction of New Ultramodern Market in Amoyo, which is expected to serve adjoining states of the federation considering the unique location of Amoyo. Also, a new Kara Market in Idofian, and car park at Iyana Share Market are progressing steadily, with 59% of work completed. These projects are poised to boost local revenue and improve the ease of doing business. The car park will also help decongest roads during market days.
The construction of motorized water borehole in Atiran community. Additionally, the completion of the Traditional Council Hall in Igbaja is in progress, a project that will serve as a vital center for cultural and administrative activities.
In education, the Chairman has facilitated scholarships for 43 students from Ifelodun Local Government to study at the Osogbo Polytechnic of Health Technology and Management Sciences. This initiative reflects his commitment to human capital development.
Healthcare improvements are also in progress, with plans to re-introduce a drug revolving scheme in primary health centers to ensure consistent availability of essential drugs.
In an effort to honor past leaders, the Chairman has initiated the Council of Former Chairmen, with legislative approval for its establishment currently in process.
As Hadji Abdulrasheed Femi Yusuf completes his first 100 days in office, his leadership has set a strong foundation for sustainable growth and development in Ifelodun Local Government.
