BUSINESS TIPS: High Chief Oluwole Awotuyi started with a single chemist shop called “Fiolu Pharmacy By Mahmood Abdullahi Loke

Today, he owns one of the largest pharmaceutical factories in Nigeria.

Most people know the name Tuyil Pharmaceuticals.

But very few people know that this multi-billion Naira factory started as a small retail shop.

He used a strategy called The Value Chain Climb.

Here is how he evolved from a “Shop Owner” to an “Industrial Giant”:

He started like thousands of other businessmen, buying drugs from importers and selling them in his shop, Fiolu Pharmacy.

Most entrepreneurs stay at this level forever. It is comfortable.

But Awotuyi realized that as a retailer, you are a slave to the supply chain.

You don’t control the price, and you don’t control the product.

He decided to stop selling only other people’s brands and start making his own.

He moved from Retail (Selling the pack) to Manufacturing (Making the pack).

When he wanted to build his factory, experts would have advised him to go to Lagos or Ogun State, the industrial hubs of Nigeria.

He refused. He built his factory in Ilorin.

He proved that you do not need to be in the “Capital City” to build a world-class business.

By building in a less congested city, he likely lowered his operational costs (land, labor, logistics).

Now, distributors drive from Lagos and Kano to come to him.

He proved that if you build a fortress, the market will find you.

Tuyil didn’t start by trying to make complex, rare medicines.

He focused on the “Pure Water” of the medical world:

Paracetamol, Vitamin C, and Malaria drugs.

These are items that the masses consume every single day.

The profit margin on one blister pack is small.

But when you sell millions of packs a month, those pennies turn into Billions.

He mastered the High Volume, Low Margin game.

Why am I telling you this?

Many of you are stuck in the “Middleman” mentality.

You are just selling clothes.

You are just selling phones.

Chief Awotuyi teaches us that the ultimate goal of a trader should be to become a Producer.

Don’t just sell the product. Own the Factory.

And most importantly, stop thinking you need to move to Lagos to succeed.

You can dominate your industry from anywhere.

I hope you learned something
