Appeal Court grants Atiku, Obi’s requests to check INEC’s presidential electoral materials
The Court of Appeal in Abuja has given Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi permission to inspect the election’s voting materials. They were the respective presidential candidates for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP) on February 25.
Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for president, defeated the other two contenders and won with 8.8 million votes.
In separate ex parte applications, Atiku and Obi have asked to see sensitive materials that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) utilized during the election in an effort to contest the results.
The lawsuit names INEC, APC, and Tinubu as defendants. The Court of Appeal agreed to the plea and instructed INEC to enable the plaintiffs access to the voting papers for inspection.
The information should help Atiku and Obi when they file applications to overturn Tinubu’s victory at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal in Abuja.
