Troops intercept large quantities of ammunition in Birnin Gwari, Kaduna
The Birnin Gwari local government area of Kaduna State has reported that Operation Forest Sanity troops have stopped a courier from delivering a significant amount of munitions to bandits near Polewire.
In a statement, the commissioner for internal security and home affairs, Samuel Aruwan, claimed that the forces had investigated reports of gun-running operations and had halted a vehicle that appeared suspicious during their thorough investigations.
According to the statement, a search of the stopped automobile, a black Toyota Corolla, turned up more than 2,000 rounds of ammunition hidden throughout the vehicle in various places.
According to the statement, 1,079 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 886 rounds of 7.62mm belted ammunition, and 139 rounds of 7.62mm tracer ammunition in precise quantities were found during a comprehensive examination of the vehicle.
Additionally, it stated that Aminu Abdullahi, the vehicle’s driver, had been taken into jail for further inquiry and that five empty AK-47 magazines had also been found.
According to the statement, Governor Nasir El-Rufai was pleased with the report and thanked the forces for being proactive in preventing bandits from obtaining a significant amount of ammunition intended to inflict additional harm and misery.
He tasked the security forces with conducting a full investigation into the detained suspect and stepping up efforts to break up gun-running networks in the State and outside.
