Lagos ranks above Dubai, Miami, emerges 19th best city in 2024 [See Full List]
Lagos is now the 19th most popular city in the world to visit, according to travel and magazine publisher Time Out.
The only other African cities on the list were Lagos; the other two were Accra, Ghana, and Cape Town, South Africa, which came in second and fourth, respectively.
Time Out claimed to have derived its conclusion via polling over 20,000 urbanites worldwide and consulting with its editorial network.
Food (both quality and price), nightlife, culture, how a city makes people feel, strong sense of community, availability of open space, historical landmarks, and many other factors are taken into consideration when ranking the cities.
The report urged people all over the world to come to the city.
The most populous metropolis in Africa, Lagos, has something to offer everyone, regardless of whether they are native to Lekki or the mainland.
“The metropolis and its suburbs are growing; simply take a look at Eko Atlantic metropolis, a live-work-play idea. Epe, on the north side of Lekki Lagoon, is undergoing a boom just outside of town.
Lagos offers good news when it comes to level of living: 96% of residents say they are pleased, 98% think the city is attractive, and 92% say it is friendly, according to the research.
The research also praised Victoria Island’s trio of upscale hotels, dining destinations, and nightlife, including Kuti’s Bistro in Ikeja, which is run by the renowned afrobeat family, for providing “reliably delicious food”, and Oniru Beach as a relaxation spot.
Lagos ranked as the fourth worst city in the world to live in according to the Economist Intelligence Unit in 2023.
Lagos was scored higher than the capitals of Libya, Algeria, and Syria, which is currently ravaged by conflict.
The report evaluated 173 cities and used 30 qualitative and quantitative indicators across five major categories: stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure.
