2023 ELECTION: Peter Obi says his problem is not with Tinubu, but the electoral process

In response to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s declaration of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as the winner of the 2023 presidential election, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Peter Obi, said that he has no ill will toward the President-elect.

During an interview with Arise TV on Monday, Obi clarified this point.

I have no problems with Tinubu, he declared. He is a man who I really respect as a brother and hold in high regard as a parent.

“I’m merely questioning the manner in which INEC announced him as the winner of the presidency. I have no objections to his announcement of himself as the next president.

Yet, since INEC is a public institution supported by tax dollars, Obi urged it to be open and allow for public scrutiny.

Obi said, “I’m not contesting who they said, I’m not challenging anything…

I’m contesting the method by which they came to their declaration, not the result.

We won’t be able to halt the rascality we saw in that election unless we do that, he continued.

The procedure for electing officials is, in my opinion,… more essential than everything they do after that. There is a method to everything. The process of getting somewhere involves steps. As I mentioned in my news conference, the path to assuming the title “His Excellency” must have been great. There is a process to becoming a bishop if you want to be one,” Obi stated.

Tinubu of the APC, who was declared the winner by INEC chairman Professor Mahmood Yakubu early on March 1, defeated Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party and LP’s Obi, who came in second and third in the fiercely contested poll.
