2023 Polls: You’ll be lucky to escape lawsuit, Tinubu’s team tells Chimamanda Adichie

Chimamanda Adichie may be sued for an accusation she made against the head of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu, according to Dele Alake, Bola Tinubu’s special assistant for media.

Many people think that the INEC chair has been “compromised,” according to Ms. Adichie, who wrote this in an open letter to US President Joe Biden.

In a response published on Friday, Mr. Alake stated that the novelist will be fortunate to escape having to provide evidence to support her claim in court.

He remarked, “Chimamanda will be lucky if she does not have to present evidence to support this serious charge in court.

The claim has not received a response from INEC.

Ms. Adiche backed Peter Obi, the third-place finisher for the Labour Party (LP), in the presidential race.

Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who received a total of 6,984,520 votes, and Mr. Obi of the Labour Party (LP), who finished in third place with a total of 6,101,533 votes, were both defeated by Mr. Tinubu, the candidate for the ruling APC.

Mr. Alake claimed that Mr. Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso’s moves to leave the PDP for the LP and New Nigeria Peoples Party, respectively, made it possible for Mr. Tinubu to win the election, which would have been nearly impossible otherwise.

The presidential election, which took place on February 25, included 18 candidates.

The fact that Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso left the PDP to run for office under the banners of the LP and NNPP, respectively, is instructive. The APC would have had a difficult, if not impossible, time winning the election if the PDP had run as a single party with Obi and Kwankwaso in it.

But by running against the ruling party on three different platforms, as they did, the APC’s win was logically and factually unavoidable,” he said.

Just before the primaries, Messrs. Obi and Kwankwaso left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The results of the presidential election are currently being contested in court by Messrs. Obi and Atiku.
